Nurturing Your Family's Financial Well-being: Peace of Mind Through Financial Literacy
Jun 06, 2023Hello Working Moms! You may have seen me around the group, posting / commenting or even around town. I’ve been a member of the Working Moms of San Antonio since August of 2019! Which is MIND-BLOWING! I’m so glad to have joined a growing community of women who have helped me out in more ways than one. I’m also very excited to have the opportunity to share this blog post with you all. Without further ado, I’m LaSondra a mother of 3 (b/g twins aged 4 & and daughter who’s 14months) and a Financial Services Professional with New York Life. I absolutely LOVE my career! It has provided me with so many opportunities to network, meet people, and best of all has allowed me to be the mom I want to be for my family. Having that work/life balance is unique to every family and I applaud each one of you for doing it your own way!
As a Financial Services Professional, I’m able to help families keep their work/life balance exactly like that…BALANCED! Life can throw us some unexpected curve balls, but if we’re properly prepared we can knock those balls right out of the park. Financial literacy, security, peace, and legacy creation is what I’m all about. Financial literacy sets the foundation for EVERYTHING, not only should you educate yourself as adults, but it helps us to educate our future generations and helps to alleviate some of the financial stressors we currently experience in our everyday lives.
Once we have the literacy part down, then we create the security. Creating security involves being prepared for the unexpected. Life Insurance, Disability Insurance, as well as Long-Term Care are avenues of protecting our current income along with our future income. Imagine you or your spouse becomes disabled, critically ill, or passes away unexpectedly. What would that do to your family’s finances? Could you afford your mortgage, childcare, etc. Would the burden of losing your second or for some only source of income be detrimental to your family? That’s where creating a plan designed to lock in your financial security comes into place.
What’s after securing your finances? Glad you asked, it’s PEACE in knowing that your family is prepared should the worst-case scenario take place. You have the financial aspect of that scenario taken care of so that you can seek the care, help, and resources you need to keep your family going without worrying about paying the mortgage. Now about those kids, I didn’t forget about them. We all want our children to be better than we are, and we’re doing that every day by the choice we make in how we educate them, what we expose them to, how we talk to them, and even discipline them. We set expectations that we know are obtainable for them because in the end we’re striving to create beautiful human beings. Children who always felt love, heard, and supported. A way we can do that is by setting them up financially. Through life insurance, college planning, and other investments we can give our youth a leg-up. Something a lot of us didn’t have growing up, at least I didn’t and bravo to those of you who did.
Although our careers as Moms are never ending there comes a time when the kids leave the nest and it’s time for you to enjoy the fruits of your years of hard work and sacrifice. The last thing you want to worry about is having enough money for retirement. While it may not be something taking place today or tomorrow retirement planning now can make for a beautiful retirement in the future. Remember earlier when we talked about financial security and peace? That same ideology continues into retirement. One full of trips to see the grandkids, backpacking through Europe, or simply sitting on your back porch with an ice-cold glass of sweet tea. We all deserve our own version of a peaceful retirement.
In the words of the ICONIC movie Mean Girls, “You’re doing great sweetie”. Keep pushing, keeping being the amazing moms that you are, and always remember no one can do what you do ♥
If you or someone you know has comments, questions, or wants to see a financial snapshot of where their family currently is don’t hesitate to reach out. I offer in-person meetings and Zoom. I also love to connect with other moms, even if it’s not about financial planning.
